The most useful screen time plan is one you can explain at the kitchen table. Instead of treating every minute online as the same, start with the parts of the day your family wants to protect: homework, dinner, sleep and time together. A predictable routine is easier to discuss than a new argument every evening.

Start with the day, not the dashboard

Qustodio offers scheduled routines with app and website rules or device blocks, subject to your plan. Before configuring them, write down what should remain available during each period. Homework might need a browser and school resources, while a bedtime routine needs a different approach. Check the settings on the actual devices your child uses.

Leave room for real life

A late assignment or a conversation with a relative should not require rebuilding the entire plan. Agree how your child can ask for an exception and who can approve it. Explain the reason for a limit before it takes effect. The software can help apply a boundary, but the family conversation gives that boundary meaning.

Review after an ordinary week

Look at whether the routine supported the goal. Was homework possible? Did a needed site get blocked? Were the rules clear across devices? Adjust one issue at a time. A workable routine should reduce friction, not create a new administrative job for the parent.

A practical next step

  • Choose one part of the day to improve first.

  • Test school resources before relying on a new routine.

  • Agree a simple way to request an exception.
