Start with the right checks.

The Wi Fi symbol confirms a local connection, not that every internet service is reachable. A few comparisons give a technician a useful starting point.

What to do next.

  1. Try two unrelated websites and note the exact message.

  2. Check another device on the same network. Record whether it works.

  3. Check that the PC joined the intended network, then use Windows’ Get Help network troubleshooter if appropriate.

  4. If all devices fail, check the internet provider’s outage information from a different connection.

Check the result.

Test the original application as well as a website. Keep the comparison results if the connection works only intermittently.

Stop and get help if…

Several people depend on the connection or the proposed change affects router, firewall or VPN settings. Shared network repair needs coordination.
