Start with the right checks.

A recovery check depends on the account, deletion date, permissions and retention. Start with one specific file rather than rewinding every folder.

What to do next.

  1. Sign into the intended Dropbox account through dropbox.com.

  2. Open Deleted files and locate the matching item and original folder.

  3. Check whether the item is within the available recovery period and whether you have restore permission.

  4. Restore the intended item and review its destination.

Check the result.

Open the restored file and confirm that collaborators can use the expected version. Recovery availability is not a guarantee for permanently removed content.

Stop and get help if…

Many files changed at once, the owner is unclear or retention has expired. Ask for a coordinated recovery assessment and check separately configured backups.
