Start with the right checks.

A wired connection removes some wireless variables, but cables, adapters and the network still matter. Begin with comparisons you can reverse.

What to do next.

  1. Check both cable ends and the correct network port.

  2. If authorized, try a known working cable and note any adapter or dock involved.

  3. Open Windows Network & internet settings and record the Ethernet status.

  4. Compare with approved Wi Fi or another device, then use the Get Help network troubleshooter.

Check the result.

Load a website and test the business application that failed. Note whether bypassing one dock or cable changes the result.

Stop and get help if…

The port serves managed equipment, multiple users are affected or adapter configuration would need changing. Give the administrator the comparison results before resetting network settings.
